The Virginia Care Equity Coalition is a statewide voice for communities whose healthcare needs and experiences have too often been overlooked.

We believe every Virginian deserves access to high-quality healthcare regardless of race, income, ZIP code, or background. And for millions of Virginians, that access begins with a strong hospital close to home.

Hospitals do far more than provide care when someone is sick or injured. They are anchors in their communities, providing lifesaving services, creating jobs, supporting families, and helping neighborhoods thrive. In communities that already face barriers to healthcare, their role is even more important.

That is why the Virginia Care Equity Coalition works to ensure these communities have a voice in the decisions shaping healthcare across the Commonwealth.

OUR PRINCIPLES

Our mission is to protect and strengthen access to hospital care in communities of color and historically underserved communities across Virginia, and to make sure the people most affected by healthcare decisions are represented in the conversation.

We bring together community voices, healthcare advocates, local leaders, patients, families, and other Virginians who believe access to quality care should never depend on where you live or the community you come from.

Access matters: Every Virginia community deserves reliable access to high-quality hospital care and essential healthcare services.

Representation matters: Healthcare policy should reflect the experiences of the people and communities most affected by it. Too often, those voices are absent from the debate.

Strong hospitals matter: Hospitals are more than healthcare facilities. They are pillars of health, employment, stability, and opportunity; particularly in communities that have historically been underserved.

Equity matters: When access to care is threatened, communities already facing healthcare barriers can feel the consequences first and hardest. Protecting hospital access is an important part of building healthier and stronger communities across Virginia.

The Virginia Care Equity Coalition elevates community voices, shares the stories of Virginians who depend on their local hospitals, provides information about the importance of hospital access, and engages in the public conversation surrounding healthcare in the Commonwealth.

Above all, we work to ensure that as decisions about Virginia healthcare are made, no community is overlooked.
